Summary

Users of New Outlook for Windows will soon be able to set custom account descriptions to better identify multiple accounts. The feature rolls out from late February to mid-September 2025, requires no admin action, and is enabled by default. Users can manage descriptions in Outlook Settings under Accounts.

Coming soon to Microsoft New Outlook: Users of the New Outlook for Windows can now set custom descriptions for their accounts, making it easier to identify their multiple accounts in the New Outlook folder list as well as various lists and menus across Outlook.

This message applies to New Outlook for Windows.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 470602.

When this will happen:

Targeted Release: We will begin rolling out in late February 2025 and expect to complete by late March 2025.

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out in late March 2025 and expect to complete by mid-September 2025 (previously late July).

How this will affect your organization:

Users can set the custom descriptions in Outlook Settings > Accounts > Your Accounts > Manage:

This change will be available by default.

What you need to do to prepare:

This rollout will happen automatically by the specified date with no admin action required before the rollout. Review your current configuration to determine the impact for your organization. You may want to notify your users about this change and update any relevant documentation.
