Users will soon be able to bulk import .eml files in the new Microsoft Outlook for Windows, starting mid-March 2025. This feature will be enabled by default and simplifies the process of importing multiple email files. No admin action is required before the rollout.

Soon, users will be able to bulk import .eml files in the new Microsoft Outlook for Windows. This feature will streamline the process of importing multiple email files, enhancing user productivity.

When this will happen:

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out mid-March 2025 and expect to complete by late March 2025.

How this will affect your organization:

The bulk import of .eml files will be enabled by default in new Outlook for Windows. This feature allows users to import multiple .eml files at once, simplifying the process of migrating or consolidating email data.

To bulk import .eml files:

  1. Go to Settings > General > Import.
  2. Select Start import.
  3. Select the folder that contains the .eml files.
  4. Select the destination account and folder.
  5. Select Import.


Please note that only top-level .eml files in the selected folder are imported. Files in subfolders are ignored.

What you need to do to prepare:

This rollout will happen automatically by the specified date with no admin action required before the rollout. You may want to notify your users about this change and update any relevant documentation.
