RM577751Dynamics 365 Commerce: Design and print A4 and thermal receipts in a modern designer
Summary
Applies to: Point of Sale (Store Commerce app, Store Commerce for web), headquarters (Commerce headquarters receipt format designer), Hardware Station, Commerce Scale Unit.
Description
Applies to: Point of Sale (Store Commerce app, Store Commerce for web), headquarters (Commerce headquarters receipt format designer), Hardware Station, Commerce Scale Unit.
Modern designer in headquarters: A new React-based receipt designer is embedded in headquarters under Retail and Commerce > Channel setup > POS setup > POS > Receipt formats > Designer. You can author in the browser with a live preview pane that doesn't need any separate desktop designer host installation. The legacy designer remains available for existing formats.
New receipt schema, end-to-end: The new schema is added to RetailFormLayout and synchronized to the channel database. Commerce Runtime (ReceiptService v2) returns structured receipt data that is platform-agnostic. Store Commerce, Hardware Station, and the print stack consume the same structured payload. A4 layouts route through the structured-to-platform conversion layer. Thermal layouts continue to route through OPOS (OLE for Retail POS), network printer, and Windows printer paths with backward-compatible public print APIs.
A4 and thermal routing: A single receipt format can target both paper sizes. The Hardware Station selects the appropriate path based on the configured printer. This unblocks B2B and trade-counter scenarios where invoices and receipts must print on A4 paper from the point of sale.
Additional authoring capabilities: The feature supports strikethrough font for promotional and original pricing and an automatic duplication indicator with reprint date and time on reprinted receipts. You can directly edit EFT/card information within the main receipt format flow without needing any separate card tender details layout. The feature also supports custom fields in the designer.
Enablement: A feature flag controls (a) whether new receipt formats are saved in the new schema, and (b) whether the new designer experience is shown in headquarters. Existing receipt formats, Hardware Station extensions, and print integrations continue working when the flag is off. Demo data is updated to include sample formats for the new designer, and public documentation covers how to enable the new experience and migrate any Hardware Station extension codes that depend on legacy fields.
Configuration: A headquarters administrator (or partner) enables the feature flag, authors or migrates receipt formats in the modern designer, and runs the standard Commerce data distribution job. Receipts then print on the configured A4 or thermal printers.
