Description

Business Value

Subcontracting requires coordinated setup across work centers, vendors, locations, prices, and production BOMs. A guided starting point and actionable warnings help administrators find the required setup and correct missing information before it interrupts production work.

Details

Clearer demonstration data also makes it easier to evaluate intermediate and final subcontracting operations and compare more than one subcontractor.

The Subcontracting Setup assisted setup guide, available after the Subcontracting app is installed, organizes initial configuration into three steps:

Review an introduction to subcontracting.

Review company defaults such as the worksheet template and batch, production-order information lines, component costs, and transfer lead time.

Open the related pages to set up work centers, vendors, locations, subcontractor prices, component supply methods, and supporting documentation.

Additional improvements make setup and discovery clearer:

From the Work Center Card, open Subcontractor Prices, Subcontracting WIP Entries, and Subcontractor - Dispatch List for configured subcontractor work centers.

From routing lines and production order pages, review subcontracting comments, prices, work-in-process entries, related purchase documents, transfer orders and entries, return transfers, and linked components. You can also create subcontracting orders and adjust WIP from supported released production order pages.

When you open the obsolete Subcontracting Worksheet in an online environment without the app installed, a notification explains that the app replaces the worksheet. Choose Install to get the new experience or Don't show me again to dismiss future notifications.

When you assign a subcontractor vendor to a work center and the vendor has no Subc. Location Code, a notification explains why the location is needed for components and WIP items.

Contoso Coffee demonstration data includes Bulk Assembly and Local Assembly subcontractors, locations, and work centers. The Airpot - Subc. Mid-Routing and Airpot - Subc. Final Op routings demonstrate intermediate and final subcontracting operations.

Standard tasks and detailed work instructions provide more realistic manufacturing examples. Routing operations use different direct costs so that you can compare scenarios without relying on preconfigured subcontractor price records.
