Users are now able hide their favorites section in Microsoft Outlook, which provides more space in the folder pane.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 167071

When this will happen:

Standard Release: Rollout started late October 2023 and is expected to complete by late February 2024.

GCC, GCCHigh, and DoD Release: Rollout will start late February 2024 and is expected to complete early March 2024.

How this will affect your organization:

Users now have the flexibility to configure the visibility of the favorites section in the folder pane. To adjust these settings:

  • Navigate to the 'View' tab > 'Layout' > 'Folder Pane' > 'Favorites.' Here, you can choose to 'Show' or 'Hide' your favorites.
  • Alternatively, right-click on the favorites section and select 'Hide favorites' to conceal the entire section.
  • If you add a Folder, Category, or Person to your favorites, the favorites section will automatically reappear.

There is no action needed to prepare for this change. You may want to notify your users about this change and update any relevant documentation as appropriate.
