What and why
We're introducing an additive user interface update to the organization panel in the Microsoft 365 profile card that can display a person's dotted-line manager relationship, in addition to their direct manager, when that data is available. This update helps employees better understand organizational structures in companies where reporting relationships span projects, business units, regions, or functions.

- General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout begins in early October 2026 and is expected to complete by late October 2026.

What will happen
- Users may see an additional manager relationship in the organization panel representing a dotted-line manager. Organizations may use different labels for this relationship, such as People Lead or Capability Manager.
- Users can open the dotted-line manager's profile directly from the profile card to learn more about that person's role and organizational context.
- This is an additive update to the user interface. If dotted-line manager data is not available, no additional manager relationship will be shown.
Action required and recommendations
No action is required. If your organization wants dotted-line manager relationships to appear in the Microsoft 365 profile card:
- Ensure dotted-line manager attributes exist in your HR system and are available for ingestion.
- Confirm your HR integration is configured through supported organizational data integrations, such as SAP SuccessFactors or Workday.
- Review internal help desk guidance and documentation so support teams understand why users may see an additional manager relationship label in the organization panel. The displayed relationship name depends on your HR system's role labels.
