Summary

Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows will add native local Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) camera controls for compatible mechanical or optical PTZ cameras, allowing users to adjust cameras directly from the room console during meetings. Rollout starts September 2026, requires no action, and support for digital PTZ will come later.

More information

What and why:

Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows will introduce native Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) camera controls directly from the in-room console for compatible cameras. This enhancement enables room users to manually pan, tilt, and zoom supported cameras during meetings without requiring a separate remote control or vendor-specific application.

At initial release, support is available for cameras that provide mechanical or optical PTZ capabilities. Support for digital PTZ cameras will be added in a future update. This is an additive feature and does not change or remove existing camera functionality.

Rollout Schedule:

  • Public Preview (Worldwide): Rollout begins in early September 2026 and is expected to complete by mid-October 2026.
  • General Availability (Worldwide, GCC): Rollout begins in mid-September 2026 and is expected to complete by mid-October 2026.
