What and Why:
We’re updating the command bar experience for SharePoint Pages. This update reorders the +New menu structure, makes changes to labels, and adds more prominent page state indicators for visibility whether a page is live.
Rollout Schedule:
General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout begins in early August 2026 and is expected to complete by late August 2026.
Impact on your organization:
Who is affected:
- Site owners or Site Managers with edit permission. These changes do not affect users with Site visitor permissions only.
What will happen:
- Command bar menu reordering and label updates for pages and news posts:
- Save and Close is now labeled Save and Exit.
- Edit (for navigation changes) is now labeled Edit Navigation.
- List Forms is no longer a standalone menu item in +New; it is available under the List menu option.
- We’re adding a page status indicator to the command bar so authors can quickly see whether a page is Draft or Published:
- Draft: the page has not been published.
- Published: the page is live, with the date it was published.
- Draft; previously published on date: the page was previously published and has unpublished draft edits.
- This status label doesn’t publish or unpublish content; authors still use Publish to make changes live.
- Existing pages and content are not modified by this update.
- This is a service user interface (UI) update and is available by default as it rolls out.
Action Required/Recommendations:
No admin action is required.
- Update internal documentation or training materials to reflect the new labels (Save and Exit, Edit Navigation) and the new page state indicator.
- Notify SharePoint content owners/page authors about the UI changes to reduce help desk tickets.
Compliance considerations:
No compliance considerations identified, review as appropriate for your organization.
