Microsoft 365 apps

Summary

The Outlook Lite app for Android will be fully retired on May 25, 2026, disabling mailbox access but allowing app launch. Users should switch to Microsoft Outlook Mobile, which supports all mailbox features and compliance capabilities. No admin action is required, but users should be notified to transition.

Details

Introduction

We will complete the retirement of the Microsoft Outlook Lite app on Android on May 25, 2026. As previously communicated in MC1148534, Outlook Lite will be retired as part of our broader effort to reduce overlap and focus development and support on Microsoft Outlook Mobile, our primary mobile email experience. After this change, Outlook Lite will no longer provide functional access to mailbox features.

When this will happen

  • October 6, 2025: New installations of the Outlook Lite app were blocked.
  • May 25, 2026: Outlook Lite will be fully retired and will no longer provide mailbox functionality for existing users.

How this affects your organization

Who is affected

Organizations with users who currently have the Outlook Lite app installed on Android devices

What will happen

  • After May 25, 2026:
    • Users will be able to launch the Outlook Lite app.
    • Mailbox access will be disabled.
    • In‑app navigation and functionality will no longer work.
  • User accounts will not be deleted or disabled.
  • All existing email, calendar items, and attachments will remain accessible when users sign in to Microsoft Outlook Mobile.
  • This change does not affect tenant‑level configurations, policies, or service availability.

What you can do to prepare

  • No admin action is required.
  • Notify users who may still be using Outlook Lite about the upcoming retirement.
  • Encourage users to install and sign in to Microsoft Outlook Mobile from the Google Play Store.
  • Update internal documentation or helpdesk guidance if Outlook Lite is referenced.

Recommended alternative: Microsoft Outlook Mobile

Users can switch by:

  • Selecting the Upgrade option in the Outlook Lite app (if available), or
  • Opening the Google Play Store, searching for Microsoft Outlook, installing the app, and signing in with existing credentials.
