Details

Versions of the new Teams client that were released more than 90 days ago will be blocked. An in-app warning banner will show up 60 days before the app is blocked (30 days for VDI).

When will this happen:

  • Users will see blocking page
    • Starting April 11th, 2025, for users using the Windows desktop app
    • Starting May 6th, 2025, for users using the Teams app in VDI environment
    • Starting May 15th, 2025, for users using the Mac desktop app
  • Users will see warning banner starting 60 days before they are blocked (for VDI environments only, users will see it 30 days before they are blocked)
How this will affect your organization:
Versions of the new Teams client that were released more than 90 days ago will be blocked. Users that are using these versions will be blocked from using the app. Users should either update to the latest version of the Teams app by downloading the latest version from the download page or use the Teams app on the web.

What you can do to prepare:
  • Update to the latest version of Teams.
  • Admins should make sure Teams is automatically updating to stay current and within the compatibility window. Common configurations to validate include:
    • Teams app on macOS has Microsoft AutoUpdate (MAU) configured properly. Learn More
    • Customer network settings, and any device management software e.g. antivirus, are configured properly to allow automatic updates.
    • Windows Policies must not block new Teams or the Webview2 updater.
    • Please visit Why it's important to keep Teams updated to learn more.
